Ballater

Ballater is a picturesque village in Aberdeenshire, on the edge of the Cairngorm Mountains and at the heart of Royal Deeside. Nearby is the Royal Family’s residence, Balmoral Castle. Queen Victoria famously wrote of the Deeside area: “All seemed to breathe freedom and peace”.

Ballater is a ballad in brick. Walk down a street of sonnets in stone, complete with an impressive collection of gift and curiosity shops, a treasure chest of delight for tourists.

Coffee shops and restaurants offer a perfect day out. The old Victorian railway station museum is the highlight of any visit.

The River Dee is like a mermaid’s prayer, a poem in bubbles, a song of nature’s struggles. Listening to its mesmerising music is like stepping back in time to a tranquil period where nature reigned supreme.
