Timeless Trail: St Nicholas area

Aberdeen city centre has a remarkable selection of sculptures, as featured in Aberdeen City Council’s Sculpture and Curios Trail

Here are some exceptional curios near to the St Nicholas Centre and Marischal College.

Below is “Sea Fantasy,” a bronze sculpture by Thomas Bayliss Huxley-Jones FRBS, ARCA (1908-1969). It is in the courtyard in front of Provost Skene’s House.

The Russell Head is a sculpture of himself by George Russell (1810-1899), originally fixed to a neighbour’s house with whom he had a grievance, believing the neighbour to have complained to the council about his bakery. It was later moved to the corner of Provost Skene’s House.

A bronze statue of famous footballer Dennis Law CBE, next to Provost Skene’s House. Law grew up in Aberdeen and was awarded the Freedom of the City of Aberdeen in 2017.

The Moon Table, below, is a sculpture by Roland Piche, and is on top of the St Nicholas Centre.
