Banff is a handsome and historic sea port town on the north coast of Aberdeenshire. Royal burgh status was granted in 1372 by King Robert II.

A princely seven arched bridge connects Banff to Macduff across the estuary of the River Deveron, completed in 1779 by John Smeaton.

The town touches the heart with its haunting collection of historic buildings, many dating from the 18th century. The Market Arms however is perhaps the oldest surviving, built in 1585.

Banff Castle
The original Banff Castle dates from the 12th century. Today it is a handsome manor house with stunning views across Banff Bay.

Airlie Gardens

Echoes of Elysium, a hint of heaven – welcome to the pastel paradise that is Airlie Gardens. Here you can relax in nature, a space of serenity at the edge of the busy town, a cave of timeless calm.

Local children have added colour and charm to the gardens.

A market cross delights on Low Street. A tree in the grounds of Banff Castle was planted by the Argentinian Ambassador, His Excellency Senor Don Carlos A Hogan on 25th October 1950, to mark the centenary of the death of General Jose de San Martin, liberator of Argentina and a freeman of the Royal Burgh of Banff.
